Day Sixteen

We visited the last National Park I'll be in for about four or five days yesterday morning: Joshua Tree National Park.

It's a really nice park, we had really good weather and it was all very calm and peaceful. The problem I sort of had with it is that everything pretty much looks the same. There are lots and lots and lots of Joshua trees and lots and lots and lots of big rocks. Not much variation, which is kind of sad. We drove through the park and stopped at a few viewpoints, but didn't spend nearly as much time there as we had planned.

Skull Rock!

We then took the one hour drive to Cabazon, California, home to the world's largest dinosaurs!

Nearby was a Fatburger, which meant stop #1 on the West Coast Burger Chain Tour. I was really impressed by it; they cook everything to order: burgers, fries, milkshakes, everything. As such, it took a little longer than fast food, but still way less time than normal burger restaurants. The burger was heavy and really good, the fries were pretty good, and we each had milkshakes that were made from real ice cream and were really tasty.

We then got to San Diego, checked into our motel, then wandered around the city a bit while we waited for the show we were seeing to open. The weather was 62 degrees and sunny, which is exactly what I had hoped for. We didn't find much to do, but did get to the top of the parking deck where we parked and watched planes fly over and land in the nearby airport.

At 8:30, the doors of the Casbah opened and we went inside. We saw Red Pony Clock, The Wave Pictures and Allo Darlin'. Red Pony Clock was a lot of fun (first picture), The Wave Pictures (second) were really talented but kinda blah, and Allo Darlin' (third) was really good, but we got so tired that we left halfway through. Oops!

Today we're going to check out two popular San Diego restaurants, get some stuff done during the day, go to the Padres / Rockies game at 7 and then head up to LA!
